From Education to Services: Zero Fluff Books Is Officially Open for Bookkeeping Clean-Ups

Since the very beginning, Zero Fluff Books has been about one thing: cutting through the noise and making bookkeeping simple for small-but-mighty businesses.
What started as an idea in March 2025 took clearer shape in July 2025, when the business officially formed. By August and September, the first pieces of content rolled out — guides, checklists, blog posts, and videos designed to give Etsy sellers, trades-based businesses, food vendors, and solopreneurs the clarity they’d been missing.
That early content was focused on education only, and there’s a reason why.
The IRS Backstory
My name is Lauren Twitchell, and before I created Zero Fluff Books, I worked for years as a Revenue Agent with the Internal Revenue Service. It was work that gave me a front-row seat to how financial disorganization can spiral into big problems — and how much peace of mind comes from clean, accurate records.
In early 2025, I took part in a program called Deferred Resignation. It allowed me to step away from the IRS. My plan was to use that window to build a bookkeeping business that served the kinds of small businesses I care most about: tradespeople, online sellers, and food vendors.
But the IRS had other ideas. In late August 2025, I received notice that there was a chance that I could go back to my old job. And if that happened, I couldn’t run a direct bookkeeping business — it would’ve been a conflict with outside employment rules.
That’s why Zero Fluff Books started in “education-only” mode. I built guides, checklists, templates, and educational resources instead of offering one-on-one services. I wanted to help small business owners, but I also needed to stay compliant while I waited for the IRS to make their decision on if it was actually rescinding the Deferred Resignation Program or not.
Fast forward to September 2025: the decision is final. I will not be returning to the IRS.
Which means that the original vision of Zero Fluff Books — bookkeeping services plus educational support — is now fully alive.
Why the Pivot
For the past couple months, I’ve been focused on education because it was what I could safely offer. And the truth is, I’ll never walk away from that side of the business. There’s always going to be a need for small business owners who want tools and resources to manage their own books.
But here’s what I also know: not everyone wants to DIY forever.
Some of you have been trying to stay on top of your books, but life and business keep getting in the way. Some of you have receipts stuffed in boxes, PayPal deposits that don’t quite match, or months of transactions sitting uncategorized. And some of you are just tired of trying to do it all yourself.
That’s why Zero Fluff Books is now offering done-for-you bookkeeping clean-up services and monthly support packages.
Why Bookkeeping Clean-Ups Matter
Let’s be real — falling behind happens. Most of the clients I talk to aren’t lazy or careless. They’re busy. They’re running food carts, managing Etsy shops, taking on contract jobs, or handling everything in a small trade business.
Bookkeeping gets pushed to the bottom of the list until it’s tax time, loan application time, or “I can’t take the stress anymore” time.
That’s where a clean-up comes in.
Our bookkeeping clean-up service is built to:
Sort through months of records and get them organized
Categorize transactions so you actually know where your money goes
Reconcile accounts so every dollar matches what’s in your bank
Deliver a Profit & Loss report that makes sense
Give recommendations for keeping things simple moving forward
Instead of facing a mountain of backlog, you get a fresh start — without the judgment, shame, or overwhelm.
Monthly Packages: Staying Organized Year-Round
Once your books are caught up, the next step is staying on track. That’s why we also offer monthly bookkeeping packages designed for small businesses with fewer than 300 transactions per month.
Every month, we:
Categorize your transactions
Reconcile your accounts
Provide a clear Profit & Loss statement
Answer questions through email (and in some packages, regular check-ins)
Whether you’re a food vendor who needs to track event fees and ingredient costs, an Etsy seller who needs clarity on platform fees and payouts, or a trades-based business juggling supplies and invoices, these packages are built for you.
What Hasn’t Changed
Even though services are now officially open, education remains a core part of Zero Fluff Books. That means:
We’ll keep publishing blogs, podcasts, and videos with practical tips
We’ll continue creating guides and templates for DIY bookkeeping
We’ll share checklists and resources to help you stay in control
Because the truth is, not everyone is ready to outsource. Some business owners want to keep their hands on the books, and others simply aren’t at the point where hiring help makes sense.
That’s okay — we’ll be here with resources for you, too.
Now you get to choose:
Learn with us (through resources and education)
Work with us (through clean-ups and ongoing bookkeeping)
What We Don’t Do
Clarity is everything, so here’s what we don’t offer:
❌ Tax preparation or filing
❌ Payroll services
❌ 1099 preparation
❌ Inventory management
Our lane is clean, accurate books. And our job is to make sure your numbers are organized enough that your CPA or tax preparer can do their part without a headache.
Why Choose Zero Fluff Books?
There are plenty of bookkeepers, but here’s what sets us apart:
Small-business focus: We serve Etsy sellers, food vendors, trades-based businesses, and solopreneurs — not big corporations.

No judgment: Whether you’re months behind or just starting out, we meet you where you are.
IRS insight: My years as a Revenue Agent mean I understand what compliance looks like and how to keep you out of trouble.
When you work with Zero Fluff Books, you get more than reconciled accounts. You get confidence, peace of mind, and clarity about where your business stands.
